Drawn From™: Friday - The Porch Ashtray, A Hand-building Pop-Up
Sunday, October 11th · Redhead Hemp Canna Cafe, Durham $55 · Approximately 2 hours
Every good hangout has an object at the center of it. Nobody designed it. Nobody thought about it. It was just… there — holding the conversation together while everybody talked over it.
This one is for that object.
Drawn From™: Friday takes its cue from the most famous front porch in American film — one street, one afternoon, and a level of doing absolutely nothing so specific it became culture. We're not recreating a luxury vase this time. We're recreating what sits in the middle of a good Sunday: the ashtray, the catch-all, the vessel that holds the moment.
What You'll Do
The session opens with a facilitated conversation about the objects that hold our best moments — what makes a thing feel like home, and why the most-used object in a room is almost always the least-considered one. Then your hands go into the clay.
The making session runs about 60 minutes. You'll build a unique vessel — ashtray, catch-all, ring dish, incense rest, whatever your Sunday calls for — with our instructors coaching throughout—no experience required. You'll finish by choosing your glaze from the EarthenTide palette, and we'll close with a short group reflection.
What You'll Leave With
Your finished piece will be bisque-fired, glazed to your selection, and returned to you within four to five weeks. You'll also leave with something harder to package — proof that the ordinary objects in your life are worth making by hand.
